Decide on the Best Rehab Facility
At this point, you should have a list of rehab options and you should have all of the information that you need in order to decide on the best rehab facility for yourself or your loved one.
Review Your List of “Must Have” Features to Help Decide
Start by reviewing the items on your “must” list. This is helpful because it is easy to lose track of those important items as you start looking at all of the different options offered by the different facilities.
Reviewing this list will serve as a reminder of the items that you originally felt were critical to achieving sobriety.
If you haven’t already done so, go through your list of rehab centers and eliminate any that can’t offer you everything on your “must” list.
At this point, every rehab facility that is still on your list would make a good choice for your substance abuse treatment. Since you followed the previous steps, you know that the facilities have everything you want them to have, and each substance abuse treatment center has a good reputation.
You can now start looking at some of the other information you gathered about rehab facilities. This includes the items that you decided you would like to have, but didn’t consider essential. If the cost of attending the rehab program is an issue for you, it’s ok to look at the less expensive options.
Visit the Rehab Facility
Depending on your location, it may be helpful to actually visit the rehab facility you are considering. Obviously when you are trying to decide on the best rehab facility, you won’t always be able to personally visit each treatment center. However, it is a great way to gather additional information.
This can give you more information about the feel of the facility and the nature and knowledge of the staff. The general feeling you get from visiting the facility can help further reduce the size of your list.
Decide on the Best Rehab Facility
There should only be a few facilities left on your list at this point. Because of the steps you followed to get to this point, any of those options should be good ones.
Making the final decision about which rehab to use will usually come down to a gut feeling.
Which facility makes you feel like they can provide the best chance for success?
Get it in Writing
Before you decide which rehab facility to use and pay a deposit, there is one step left. You absolutely must get their proposal and refund policy in writing.
This is the best way to ensure there are no misunderstandings and it is the best way to ensure the treatment plan is followed. If you choose the rehab based upon the treatment plan (or anything else), you should get it in writing to ensure you or your loved one actually receives the treatment that you expected.
Unfortunately, being able to decide on the best rehab doesn’t guarantee success. There are many factors that come into play, and the willingness of the addict to accept treatment is a big one.
It’s important that you never give up.
Some people go into treatment for substance abuse and they are immediately able to change their life and become sober. Others have to go through treatment at a rehab multiple times before they become sober.
Whatever the outcome… keep trying, because it’s worth it!
