I went to a state place that was very regimented. They got most of their patients from the jails in the area and each day new people came in wearing shackles. They had the “jail mentality” because they had to stay in jail for weeks or even months waiting for a bed to open up in the facility. The “jail” mentality they brought with them made it a very uncomfortable environment to be in.
We had to wake up at 6 and couldn’t go back into our bedroom until 10:30 each night. They kept us busy with a bunch of required programs, but it was usually just sitting in chairs, listening to some boring lecture they were giving the group. I was basically in withdrawal for 21 out of the 28 days I was there and they didn’t provide any sleep or comfort meds. My experience wasn’t a good one.
