Inpatient Drug and or Alcohol Treatment (aka Rehab)

The days in a rehab facility are intense.  They usually start at 7 AM and can go as late as 9 or 10 PM.

What happens during those hours varies greatly from one facility to another.

You should find out ahead of time what a typical day is like to make sure the facility meets your criteria.  It is essential that you get this in writing, to make sure the facility meets your criteria.

Treatment may include:

  • Physical exercise
  • Individual and group therapy
  • Biofeedback
  • Medication

You should pay close attention to the policy of the facility regarding medication that will be given.  This is an issue that can be a bone of contention so you should make sure you understand their policy, and you agree with comfortable with it.

Other people who are recovering addicts and alcoholics are also involved in rehab communities.   AA or NA members frequently come into the facility and meet with clients, usually in a group format.

Most inpatient treatment programs are grounded in the practical aspects, philosophy, and spiritual principles of the Twelve Step programs.

(Please note that there is a difference in spiritual and religion. Religion is for people who want to avoid going to hell; spirituality is for those who have already been there.)
